The YAO has various options for our youth athletes:
Instructional encompasses Kindergarten - 3rd grade, co-ed at the youngest levels. This is our youngest level for organized basketball. Participants will start to learn the basics of teamwork, some skills and join our community. Many of our older players and graduating seniors have been playing since their instructional days many years ago! Parents are heavily involved at this level coaching, managing, providing snacks, etc. Teams may participate in one-day Jamborees and play 2+ games in one day (score is not kept at the youngest levels).
League play typically begins in 4th grade. Teams are focused on skill development and team building with guaranteed playing time. Leagues typically run December - February with practices once a week and games on Sat nite or Sunday afternoons. These teams participate in the league games as well as league tournaments.
Open play is late Spring and weekend tournaments only (no league play). Teams may hold tryouts, aspire to be competitive and play to win. Playing time is at the discretion of the coaches and these teams participate in more competitive tournaments. Open teams are for older grades (~6th & above).
