FAQ
What day is the flotilla?
The amazing Bronx River Flotilla will be held on Saturday, May 14th 2022. The rain date for flotilla is Saturday, May 21st; If you are unable to volunteer on the rain date please inform Rodrick as soon as possible.
What is the starting location and start time?
We will be meeting at the Shoelace Park kayak/boat launch at 8am near 219th street (unless otherwise stated as part of your role and responsibilities at the end of this email). If Flotilla is rescheduled to the rain date, the start time will be 11am.
What is the end location?
The Flotilla will end at River House in Starlight Park (1490 Sheridan Blvd). The Flotilla celebration will run until 3:30p.
How do I get to Shoelace Park?
This park is most easily accessible via the 2 train 219th street station -- walk West to Bronx Blvd, where there is an entrance to the park here. One may also use the Bx39 bus to 219th street and White Plains Rd and walk west to Bronx Blvd. If you are driving, please note - there is no transportation provided back up to this location if you are scheduled to be on water.
Who should I contact if I am running late or unable to participate?
If you are unable to participate we ask that you inform us within 48 hours. Should you be running late feel free to call or text Rodrick at the following number: 929.474.724
Who should I check in with upon arrival?
Upon arrival, you should check in with your assigned team captain.
How do I know what my roles/responsibilities are for the day?
On the day of your team captain will also provide you with a tag that has your role/s for the day. Your assigned role will be in accordance with your abilities and preferences as indicated in this form.
What should I bring with me? We recommend bringing a refillable water bottle, hat, closed-toed sneakers or boots. In an effort to reduce the amount of weight and carry items we ask that participants bring minimal belongings.
Will there be bathroom breaks?
Port-O-Potties will be provided at the start location. There will not be an opportunity to use the restrooms again until the end of the paddle at Starlight Park if you are on water. Otherwise, there will only be access to port-o-potties all day within each park.
Will there be shuttles going back to 219th street?
No, however, we will be providing shuttles to the 6 train And 2/5 Train.
Is lunch provided?
Yes, Lunch will be provided at the end location of River House .
Is water provided?
Yes! Please be ready with refillable water bottles.
Do I get a T-shirt?
Shirts will be given out at the end location.
What should I do if a boat flips over?
Check to see if the person is injured. If not empty the water in your boat and inform your captain that you will need assistance. The wet participant can be picked up at the next portage should they wish.
What should I do if I have a sick or injured participant?
For severely injured participants call 911 and refer to your emergency access sheet present in your volunteer packet. Call Rodrick and/or inform your team captain. For sick participants, inform your team captain refer to your flotilla tags for contact information.
