Dear Mayor Eric Adams:
We are families, would-be families and concerned New Yorkers asking you to stand up for families by fully funding much needed Pre-K and 3-K programs and expanding free child care for all children under 5.
Just as New Yorkers are finding it harder and harder to raise a family in our city, we ask you not to cut this crucial lifeline. As working and middle class families are leaving New York City due to the cost of child care, the City should be focusing on solutions that make New York City affordable and keep families here.
Slashing essential early childhood education programs is counter productive. It not only harms children at the most important stage of brain development, but hurts economic development by forcing parents out of the workforce and out of our City.
The estimated rate of return on investment from early childhood education says it all: for every $1 spent, we get $7-12 back in revenue and the city is losing 23 BILLION in economic output due to lack of childcare.
Please fully fund Pre-K, 3- K and expand free child care for all kids under 5!
