ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS

1. PEDAGOGY ON THE PAGE: SCAFFOLDING MATHEMATICS HANDOUTS FOR MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS
      Wednesday, May 28, 2025;  11:00 AM - 1:30 PM EST

This workshop provides math educators with the tools and know-how for effectively scaffolding their handouts so that their contents are accessible to all MLLs.  Participants will have multiple opportunities to practice identifying difficult aspects of student-facing worksheets from the Illustrative Math (IM) curriculum and collaboratively coming up with the necessary scaffolds.

2. SUPPORTING NEWCOMER MLLs IN THE HETEROGENEOUS CLASSROOM (HUMANITIES ONLY)
     Thursday, May 29, 2025; 11:00 AM - 1:30 PM EST
     Tuesday, June 3, 2025; 11:00 AM - 1:30 PM EST

NOTE: ALL REGISTRANTS AUTOMATICALLY SIGN UP FOR BOTH SESSIONS
Discover high-leverage scaffolds for differentiating curriculum and instruction so they are more accessible to Newcomer MLL students. We unpack an entirely scaffolded lesson over the course of two workshop sessions to look more closely at the varied strategies for providing Newcomer MLLs with the access points they need to participate in the lesson and reach the same objectives as their peers. In both sessions, participants have the opportunity to apply new learning around differentiating writing tasks, narrowing down text, scaffolding the pre-writing process, and building schema around new content.
