Head Usher - Working under the direction of the Events
Manager, the Head Usher organizes volunteer event placements
before the event, arrives 2 hours before doors open to organize the
volunteer equipment & uniforms. Making sure flashlights, ticket
scanners, re-entry passes, Day of Show Signage and any other relevant
event needs are being met.
During the event, the Head Usher will handle any customer experience
troubleshooting questions and/or concerns in a particular area. After the event, work with
the Event Manager to ensure everything has been properly returned, doors
are locked, and the theater is clear of patrons and volunteers. Ideally this is someone who is knowledgeable about the venue, friendly and solution-focused. -- Double Hours
Box Office Volunteer -
Arrives 45 minutes before doors open. Box Office
Volunteer works with the Business Manager and Box Office Associates to
assist in getting Will Call tickets to the patrons. Box office typically
closes halfway through the event, and the volunteer would be able to
watch the remainder of the show after their volunteer shift ends. Show
by Show Basis
Programs -
Working from the lobby, you would distribute and collect
printed programs for upcoming shows during the day of an event.
Arrives 45 minutes before doors open.
Proactive and friendly, quickly gets programs in the hands of as many
patrons as possible. When the lights go out in the house for the show start, this volunteer will close the lobby doors. When the lights come back on for intermission and the end of show, this volunteer will open the lobby doors.
Ticketing Attendants -
Responsible for the entry, reentry and exit of patrons
on event days. Arrives 45 minutes before doors open. At least one ticket
taker remains in the lobby at all times, ticket takers will rotate this
position during the performance. Direct the patron to the balcony or
orchestra depending on the ticket. One scan per person, including
children. If ticketing problems occur (bad tickets, scanners not syncing
etc) – report to the Head Usher.
ADA Volunteers -
Arrives 45 minutes before doors open. Responsible for
the entry, reentry and exit of handicap and special needs patrons.
Assist them in using the wheelchair lift and help them exit the building in
case of an emergency.
Orchestra Usher -
Arrives 45 minutes before doors open. Stand in a visible
location in the back of the house near production to assist customers in helping them find their seats, the
restrooms etc. Watch the emergency exits throughout the show to endure
that nobody is trying to enter/exit through those doors.
Balcony Ushers -
Arrives 45 minutes before doors open. Stands in a
visible location to assist customers in helping them find their seats,
the restrooms etc. Watch the emergency exits throughout the show to
endure that nobody is trying to enter or exit through those doors.
Concessions Volunteers -
Arrives 2 hours before the door time. Working with the
Concessions Supervisor. Responsible for fast and friendly food and
(non-alcoholic) beverage sales. 2 servers & one popcorn/drinks. Sets
up, organizes, cleans & stocks concessions bar. Concession
attendants are not permitted to leave concessions unattended, there is
no rotating out to see the show. Concessions closes about a half hour
before the show ends. Restocks beverages after the show.
Impact Team -
Earn hours outside of events! Be an everyday
representative for the theatre. Distributes flyers, pamphlets, stickers,
merchandise, and other activities as needed around Ithaca &
relevant participating locations. Assists with outreach ideas for both
volunteers & patrons. Working with the Event Manager & Marketing
Director, volunteers will set up booths at events in Ithaca to
represent the theatre with upcoming show handouts, volunteer info,
stickers etc.(DIA events and other local happenings such as the Downtown
Summer Concert Series, Ithaca Festival etc.)
Clean up crew - Assists Maintenance either before or after a show with cleanup efforts
