2023 Summer College Application Bootcamp

About Us

Higher Heights Youth Empowerment Programs, Inc. (HHYEP), founded in 2004, is a local college access program that provides college-planning services to high school students, grade 9 thru 12, and their families, throughout the State of Connecticut.

Our mission is to change the lives of under-represented college bound students and Empower, Encourage, and Equip them to obtain a post-secondary education.

Our organization’s goal is to provide more equitable access of college preparatory resources and services to a broad range of students and their families who have a history of being deprived and who as a consequence are underrepresented in the pool of academically high-achieving students.

Summer College Application Bootcamp

This summer, from July 5 - July 27  Higher Heights Youth Empowerment Program is offering a program aimed at helping local high school students who are entering the 12th grader prepare for their college journey.  This program is designed for any student entering their senior year of high school and is modeled after our 16 year college access program. Each session is being taught by our trained College Access Advisors. “The college process can be scary and it's not uncommon for young people to refrain from making the attempt because they don't know where to start. We are excited to provide this interactive and informational opportunity to our greater community” - Founder Dr. Chaka Felder-McEntire.

The hands-on student centered program will cover topics including: jumpstarting the application process, crafting a college essay or personal statement, pro tips for conducting a college search, navigating college resources, organizing the application process and a look at the new common application, and the new FAFSA application process, financial aid basics and scholarship searches.  The program is provided at no cost.
