What is a Stage Kitten/(Panda)?
Please read this succinct & wonderful explanation by Jo Boobs, Headmistress of The New York School of Burlesque via her blog @ http://burlesquedaily.blogspot.com/2011/08/stage-kitten-guidelines.html

Q: What is a stage kitten/panda?
A: A stage kitten/panda is the person who picks up the costume pieces and props after a burlesque number. They get lots of stage time! When you're kittening/panda-ing, be sure to watch the performers undress to help you know what to pick up and get every piece. Remember, there are usually two gloves! If one is missing, wait until after the show to find it rather than rummaging around in the crack between the stage and the wall during the show.

Will I also have to set up the stage for the act?
It depends on the show, but it’s very common for stage kittens to also set out props such as fans, chairs, and tables with props.

What should I wear?
Ask the producer, but if they don’t specify, wear something fun and flirty and sexy. Not a party dress (or tux), but perhaps a go-go costume with fringe and some high heels or some vintage mens aloha wear. Wear makeup and hair as if you were performing. You can often be a character if you like, but be sure to check with the show producer about that. Depending on the show, you may need to be lowkey.

What else will they need?
A stage name. Do a search on this blog for stage name tips. Remember, names like Kitten, Kitty, Kat, etc., tend to be taken and it will be hard for you to get gigs if you're getting confused with someone with a similar name.

What will I get out of it?
It’s one of the best ways to find out what really goes on in a show. You’ll learn a lot about costuming as you pick up the costume pieces and about staging as you handle the props. You’ll learn backstage etiquette quickly. You’ll get to network and meet a lot of people and get to know a lot of venues. There may be other perks as well--free dinners, free shows, swag, and other treats!

STAGE KITTEN/PANDA RULES:
*YOU MUST BE ABLE TO ATTEND (1) RUN-THRU OF THE SHOW YOU’RE KITTENING, AS WELL AS WORK THE ACTUAL SHOW (there are 2 shows Friday & Sat. September 14th & 15th, 2018.) Kittens will be assigned to (1) show each.) THE RUN-THRUS ARE GENERALLY HELD THE DAY OF THE SHOW, IN THE MID MORNING AND LAST AROUND 1-3 HOURS.
THE SHOWS BEGIN AT 7:30PM, AND END AT 10:00PM SHARP.

Kittens/Pandas are responsible to arrive on time for their appointed Show Call Time, and to be at all assigned shifts as agreed upon with the Director/Stage Manager.

Stage Kittens/Pandas are responsible for communicating with the Stage Manager if there’s a problem and they are not able to attend the shift they are assigned. The Stage Manager will try to reschedule you for another show but this can not be guaranteed.

Stage Kittens/Pandas must meet the requirements for their position for them to be considered “working” a shift and receive the benefits provided.

The Hawaii Burlesque Festival & Revue reserves the right to terminate a Stage Kitten’s/Panda's agreement if his/her services are no longer needed for any reason.

If Stage Kittens/Pandas do not report for all of their assigned shift(s), or if the Stage Kitten/Panda decides to terminate their status, they will become personally liable for any costs incurred on their behalf (tickets, classes, etc).

EXAMPLE: Circus Arts (juggling, mime), Comedy, Improv, Magic etc. *Please keep in mind that while the HBF wants to make sure you shine onstage, "Stage Kitten" is not considered a "Performer" position. We may elect to use your amazing talents within the show, but cannot promise to do so.
Your answer
Are you comfortable wearing something sexy or over the top funny while you Stage Kitten? *
We generally have themed shows, and VB will give you a better idea of what we'd like to see you in based on the night you're selected for. VB may also provide a costume or accessories based on needs for the theme. That said, Stage Kittens typically wear something sexy or funny/cute, and usually in the style of Burlesque. A typical stage kitten outfit would be a sexy lingerie set with a bra, knickers (or boyshorts), a garter belt, stockings, heels, a little shimmy skirt or accessory to snazz things up or provide coverage, and a hair flower. If you've got an outfit like that, or photos of yourself in an outfit like that, EVEN BETTER! You can send them to violettaberetta@gmail.com with the subject heading "Stage Kitten Costume/NAME" (*please make sure to title your photo with your NAME.)
Are you comfortable with the HBF using the photos you provide to promote the Festival via the web, print & social media? *
Your image may appear on our official website, as well our social media pages and in our programs. If you're not comfortable with this, please let us know!
Please list your social media accounts if you'd like us to link them via our website for promotional purposes.
Please make sure all of your links are working! Non-working links will not be published.
