SustainUS has spent the last 20 years working in solidarity with youth around the world to intervene in international climate policy-making. It’s clear that this system is not built for us, so we are dedicated to building with each other. Amidst a time of immense loss and struggle, we’re asking ourselves: how can we share stories that weave racial, economic and social justice, explain complex scientific and political concepts in a compelling way, and depict the more beautiful world we are creating?
We are convening a cohort of 8 young people (ages 18-30) from around Turtle Island to co-create in response to these questions. The StoryShapers is a circle of practice on how artists and storytellers can play a role in campaigns for systemic shifts in key political moments in 2021. Through a collaborative final video and individual projects, we’ll tie together new narratives on climate, economic, and racial justice.
As a StoryShapers member, you would get to initiate a project and actualize it individually, while contributing a to collaborative final video project as determined by the group, and learn from guest facilitators in skill-shares. We estimate group meetings 2x a month to share feedback, skills, and processes, plus project-based meetings and skill shares as needed. The cohort is expected to run May, June, and July of 2021. Participants will receive a $500 stipend and have access finances to support funding art supplies as needed.
Form closes April 30th at 11:59 pm PCT.
