Perform at Down to Clown!
Down to Clown is a monthly community for new work development held at Pine Box Rock Shop (12 Grattan St, Brooklyn) on the second Thursday of each month at 8:30 PM. (note the change from the previous start time of 7pm). 

Down to Clown originally started with an Open Mic of short acts, followed by two rotating hours of new work. but with the rise of more open mics around town, we found ourselves with a surplus of folks looking for longer chunks of stage time for that nebulous space between 'act' and 'show.' 

And so, in 2026 we welcome work from 5-45 minutes, to be programmed into a two act show with an intermission, followed by open time for feedback, chats, and socializing.

Finances
Tickets are a suggested donation of $10+, cash or Venmo on the door. There is no drink minimum at Pine Box, but we encourage you to support the venue if you're able - they have a range of drinks and pizzas. 

Performers get in free all night. All proceeds are split equally between the artists, so additional tips and donations are most welcome. 

Accessibility 
Pine Box is wheelchair accessible via a ramp into the performance space, but the stage is raised about a foot off the ground. Seating includes several varieties of folding chairs and stools with backs.

Step1: Tell us about yourself
We welcome clown, mime, physical theater, puppetry, musicians, drag, burlesque, character work, magic, alt comedy, circus, and other artists making weird and wonderful art. Duo, trio, and ensemble work especially welcome!

This form is always open, so if you're going to be visiting from out of town, want to perform as a test for a bigger run or tour, or need to set yourself a deadline, feel free to pitch in advance. 

Seriously. We love planning ahead! Want to lock in a Halloween act in March? Amazing.

Step 2: Tell us about your work
Pitches will be programmed into a two-act show with an intermission, generally with shorter bits at the top of the act to warm up the crowd, and then progressing into longer bits.

If you have strong preferences for a particular date (aka you're from out of town, setting yourself a deadline, prepping for a tour, etc), let us know here. 
Summarize your act or show in 1-2 sentences. Character, theme, vibe, style, any content notes, etc. Give us the elevator pitch that will help us program it with complementary acts or just know what to expect.  *
Please describe any sound or set needs you may have. We'll have a tech person on the night, and sound cues (mp3 files with notes) are due a week before the show. 

Be aware the lights at PineBox are haunted, so lighting is limited to a clip light and house lights. 

PineBox has folding chairs, stools, and heavy tables made from metal barrels (short and tall). Any other set pieces you'll need to bring. 

Sweep-able, nonperishable, and impermanent spillage is permitted, but please let us know so we can prepare and allot time for clean up. Bring a tarp or sheet if it's wet, slippery, or likely to spread far.

We cannot accept acts that use glitter or other messy substances, or that use racism, sexism, transphobia, ableism, homophobia, etc. Good comedy punches up, not down.
