Part 3 of 4: Junior Bulldog Basketball Parental Expectations

PARENT EXPECTATIONS We want this to be a great basketball season for your son. In order for that to happen, we need to make sure everyone is aware of what to expect. Please read all of the parental guidelines listed below and sign/date at the bottom. 1. Coaches volunteer their time to help your child become a better basketball player. They are beginning to institute skills and drills that your son will need to become a high school basketball player. 2. Please, no coaching from the stands. You may not agree with a decision that was made during the course of a game, but please remember that our coaches are doing their best. None of them are Coach K, Phil Jackson, Larry Brown, or Dean Smith. Also, our coaches may be instructed to teach a concept you may disagree or be unfamiliar with. We don't want to confuse our kids. The Junior Bulldogs coaching staff has most of the same philosophies as that of the RB Basketball staff. 3. Please don’t question your son’s playing time. Please understand playing time may not be equal in every game, but there will be plenty of games this season where your son has the opportunity to play a lot. That is why we play as many games as we do. Coaches are trying their best to develop EVERY player! At the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade levels, coaches will do their best to get the players in for at least a quarter or a quarter and a half (Please remember this is not always possible, sometimes it will be less and sometimes it will be more). At the 7th and 8th grade level, all players will play in every game. Coaches will do their best to see that they play a substantial amount, but once again some games they may play more and other games they will play less. 4. Encourage your son to practice on his own. It is our hope that you will encourage your son to practice skills and drills learned in practice on his own. Things they can always work on are their dribbling and shooting skills. They won’t get better only playing in games and practicing one night per week. They need to practice on their own as well. 5. Please understand that playing time will be affected if your son misses practices. It is hard to play players in games if they haven’t practiced and don’t know certain plays, etc. 6. Please check the website and your email daily for updates on games/practices, tournament schedules and other announcements. www.riversidebrookfieldbasketball.com/junior-bulldog-basketball-home.html This website will be update each day as new information arrives. 7. Please do not heckle the officials or other team’s parents, players, or coaches. Remember this game is about the kids. Let’s not lose sight of the purpose. 8. Please make arrangements to drive your son to all games and practices. Car pooling is encouraged. If you can’t drive your son, please make arrangements with another family that can. A phone list will be provided. 9. Please arrange to have your son at games/practices no later than 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. Sometimes games/tournaments run early. Also, practice starts at the listed time, not warm-ups. 10. Please call, text, or email your coach if you are going to miss a practice or a game. If you know you are going to miss a game, please try to let a coach know at least 2 days in advance. 11. Please make payment of $425 or $550 to Junior Bulldogs Basketball ASAP. 12. Please DO NOT question why your son was placed on a Blue or White Team. Players are placed on teams where both Jr. Bulldog and RB coaches feel they will develop the best. This is about development, not the status of being on a Blue or White. As long as your player works hard they will develop no matter what team they are on. 13. This is an honor, privilege, and big commitment to be a member of this team. No refunds will be given!
