Appropriate course placement decisions are critical to a student having a successful academic experience. CUSD Math Placement Criteria have been developed based on the best available information about a student’s readiness, tenacity and perseverance relative to the curricular challenges they will encounter in the coming year. Students wishing to enroll in advanced or accelerated math courses should refer to the suggested placement criteria and course sequencing (both linked below) prior to making their course requests.
Additional factors to consider when deciding to waive your child into an accelerated or advanced class should include your child’s strengths, interests, ability to work independently, motivation, additional responsibilities, and/or extracurricular activities. In general students in accelerated courses should be self-directed, organized and have good time management skills. They will likely have shorter timelines for project completion and will be expected to analyze, evaluate and synthesize more complex and in depth concepts more often. Accelerated math classes are rigorous and fast paced and cover close to two years of math into one year.
This waiver should only be submitted if you would like your child to be in the advanced/accelerated course but they do NOT meet the district criteria. Students who meet the criteria will be automatically placed in the advanced or accelerated course.
WAIVERS MUST BE COMPLETED BY MAY 24, 2024 TO SECURE PLACEMENT INTO THE REQUESTED COURSE.
