2019 Social Worker of the Year
This award honors an NASW member who exemplifies the best of the profession’s values and
achievements. In honoring the Social Worker of the Year, NASW highlights outstanding
accomplishments in the practice of social work in the member’s current and recent work. The
Candidate should:
a) Demonstrate commitment to social work values & ethics.
b) Make a demonstrable difference in such areas as advocacy for clients, impact on social
policy, exceptional practice, program creation, administration development, and / or
innovative research.
c) Demonstrate outstanding leadership and possess recognition beyond the social work
profession.
d) Contribute to a positive image for the social work profession.
e) Enlist public support for improved social services.
f) Stand out beyond the expectations of his/her job.
g) Make outstanding contributions of lasting impact.
i) Be a resident of Nassau County.


2019 Lifetime Achievement Award
In addition to meting all the criteria of Social Worker of the Year, the candidate must also demonstrate:
a) Repeated outstanding achievements
b) Recognition beyond the social word profession
c) Contributions with a lasting impact
d) Outstanding creativity and courage


2019 Public Citizen of the Year
This award honors an outstanding member of the community who is not a social worker, whose
outstanding contributions to the area of human services go beyond the expectations of his/her job or
volunteer position. The candidate should:
a) Demonstrate leadership qualities.
b) Make an important contribution to human services.
c) Advocate for or make a significant contribution to an area or population of concern to
social work profession.
d) Address social issues or contribute to the amelioration of a pressing social problem.
e) Help improve the quality of life in the community.
f) Contribute to a positive image of public or volunteer service.


2019 Social Work Student of the Year
This award honors a current BSW, MSW, DSW, or PhD student who demonstrates commitment to
the community, the social work profession and academic study. The candidate should:
a) Demonstrate commitment to social work values and ethics.
b) Demonstrate strong commitment to social work education and to the profession.
c) Possess leadership qualities.
d) Help to improve the quality of life in the community.
e) Be an NASW member in good standing
f) Be a resident of Nassau County.


2019 Agency of the Year
This award honors a human service organization that demonstrates a strong commitment to the
community. The agency should:
a) Meet and exceeded expectations for human service organizations.
b) Improve the quality of life in the community.
c) Develop innovative approaches for the provision of more effective services.
d) Make a demonstrable difference in such areas as advocacy for clients, impact on social
policy, exceptional practice, program creation, administration development, and / or
innovative research.
e) Make a significant contribution to an area or population of concern to social work
profession
f) Be in good standing with NASW (e.g., no sanctions)
g) Be located in Nassau County
