Joburg Speaks is a bold new video journalism initiative by the Henry Nxumalo Foundation (HNF) which will tandem with the Johannesburg Pop-Up Newsroom. The newsroom will confront broken governance and municipal neglect, and what citizens are doing about it. Joburg Speaks will place the voices, faces and stories of ordinary Joburgers front and centre.
Through short, mobile-shot videos, residents will share their lived experiences of the best and the worst of the city. These stories, collected and curated and supported by trained youth, will reach the public through social media, civic networks, and trusted newsrooms. The goal? To amplify real voices, spark real dialogue, and drive real change.
