KNES288: KEEN Coach Application
The Department of Kinesiology has a service-learning opportunity available for the Spring 2026 semester where students will volunteer with a local community partner that promotes physical activity in populations that are traditionally underserved or marginalized.  Please review the information below before submitting the form. 

Preference given to those who apply by December 1, 2025. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.

OPPORTUNITY
  • KEEN | on-campus: Kids Enjoy Exercise Now (KEEN) seeks to empower youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities and impact volunteer coaches through participation in free, non-competitive, one-on-one programs of physical activity and fun, supporting the overall health and well-being of all participants. Learn more about KEEN here.
COMMITMENT
  • Every Sunday  (Feb. 1st - May 10th) from 10:30 AM - 1:30 PM. Located in the SPH Volleyball gym.

COURSE CREDIT
  • KNES288: A Service-Based Approach to Physical Activity Programs | 1 credit |  Elective. 
  • Some asynchronous assignments/reflections supplement your volunteer experience.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Students are required to complete a background check with KEEN
  • After submitting your application, you are required to attend a virtual Mutual Expectations Session
  • Attend an in-person training session on Feb. 1st 
QUALIFICATIONS
No prior experience is needed, and coaches don't have to be athletic! If you have the skills listed below, you'd likely be a good fit for this role!
