STEM Story - Student
The Energy Day Program has several goals:
• to inspire and motivate students to stay active and interested in STEM subjects
• to encourage them to pursue careers in STEM fields
• to change the perception of what a STEM professional looks like

That begins with keeping students interested in STEM subjects and giving them an accurate view of what those careers and people actually look like, including the vast variety of personalities, and job opportunities. Sometimes students don't see diversity; they don't see their future selves in the current workforce, so they don't see it as an option. And keep in mind, diversity goes deeper than age, gender, skin color, and culture; beneath those things are distinct and different personalities. Maybe you've overcome adversity or fears that another student can identify with. Maybe you didn't always fit in with the group you wanted to be a part of (robotics, engineering design team, academic competition or club, etc.), because they saw you as something else (an athlete, an artist, etc.). How did you handle that? Share those things!

An integral part of changing the perception is sharing YOUR stories: students need to hear from adults in the workforce AND from other students! Thank you for your help!
