Points of Light Lantern Festival Volunteer Application
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the third annual Points of Light Festival on May 4, 2019! We are looking for 75 volunteers to help us prepare for the festival and to help make it happen! Some tasks need to be accomplished BEFORE the day of the festival. On May 4, we need volunteers from 9AM until midnight in one or two-hour shifts. Please look over the following list carefully before signing up.

Tell us how you'd like to help out. Please read descriptions BEFORE checking all that apply. Please check AT LEAST 3 tasks you are interested in.
Ambassador: help run community decoration events, and/or visit churches and neighborhood groups BEFORE the event (March-April). Ability to speak non-English languages especially needed!
Flyering: go to neighborhood or nearby businesses and gathering spots to post flyers BEFORE the event (Early April)
Translator: translate information and text from flyers and provide text for social media posts. Need translators fluent in: Spanish, Khmer, Burmese, and Arabic BEFORE and DURING the event
Canal Cleanup: help clean plaza, sidewalks, canal slopes and canal water the morning of May 4. All ages welcome to clean plaza and sidewalks, must be 18 or over to clean canal slopes or water. All safety equipment will be provided.
Set Up: set up tables, chairs, tents, and other items before the festival. Need to be able to carry heavy items. Good activity for families with kids over 12!
Welcome Table: staff the welcome table at the Festival, orient festival goers as to what is happening. Answer questions from vendors and performers about where to set up and who to talk to, check in volunteers.
Errand Runner: pick up items that are forgotten or left behind and bring them to festival location. Must have own vehicle.
Rovers: wander plaza to answer questions and provide information, and direct volunteers, food vendors, performers, and festival goers to available parking lots.
Bucket Brigade: solicit donations and give out glow sticks.
Lantern Decoration: assemble lanterns, provide markers and other supplies to participants, accept donations.
Green Team: staff recycling station, sort trash into recycle and compost bins.
Stage Crew: help set up stage equipment safely, prepare performers, and prepare stage for different performers' needs. Must be able to carry heavy and delicate items.
Lantern Launch: be part of the team that puts the lanterns onto the Western Canal. Must be over 18. All safety equipment will be provided.
Take Down: take down tables, chairs, tents, and other items after festival ends, and make sure plaza is clean. Need to be able to carry heavy items. Good activity for families with kids over 12!
Lantern Retrieval: use nets to take lanterns out of the water and/or separate the reusable parts from trash. Must be over 18 to access canal slopes.
