Marshall E. Redding, M.D., a former Granville County resident and prominent cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon in Long Beach, California, established this scholarship as a tribute to both of his late parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Redding.  Dr. Redding's father served as the county Agricultural Extension Agent for 28 years, and Mrs. Bessie B. Redding, his mother, was a respected elementary school teacher in Granville County.
