Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) Resident, Fellow, and Student (RFS) Section Application

Welcome to the Resident, Fellow, and Student Section of the Society of Interventional Radiology!

Thank you for your interest in the RFS Section of the SIR. As the future leaders of this specialty, you have taken the most vital step, the first step, to ensuring a solid foundation for the generations of IR's to follow by choosing to participate in the RFS Section of the SIR.

As members, a unique responsibility rests on your shoulders. You will create the face and personality of the RFS Section! You will design and sculpt the body of your constituents. Most importantly you will evoke change!

The population of the Section's executive committee will be diverse and representative of current Section members. This represents a ONCE IN A LIFETIME opportunity to engage in leadership from the ground up! Your enthusiasm and drive to help the RFS Section grow will serve as the underpinning of our success. In life we are responsible for our own success or failure and this also rings true within the RFS Section!

With the increasing demand toward comparative effectiveness, increased scrutiny on spending, and increased anticipated hospitalized patient volumes it will be our responsibility to ensure the safety of our patients with minimally invasive therapy. Cost cutting and increased volumes will lend administration towards decreased "operative" times and shorter hospital stays. This is our call to action. This is our time to shine. The time to get involved is NOW!

By this point many of you have realized how critical it is for the survival and expansion of IR to be a true clinician and expert of disease, one who not only sees the patient in pre-operative consultation, admits patients to their own service, but also follows them longitudinally.

It will be a challenge to select the council and committee members from such a talented group of residents and fellows. We want to garner as much of your talent and ideas as possible to move the field forward, and have a selection committee that will be reviewing the applications.

Again, welcome to the Resident, Fellow, and Student Section and thank you for your leadership!
