Maryland General Assembly Visit Day 2026 - Science Policy & Diplomacy Group at Johns Hopkins (SPDG@JHU)
The Science Policy and Diplomacy Group at Johns Hopkins is excited to invite all JHU graduate students to join an advocacy day at the Maryland General Assembly in Annapolis, MD. This Visit Day visit will take place in the last week of January (exact date TBD depending on participant and representatives availability).

Every year the Science Policy & Diplomacy Group organizes a Federal Capitol Hill Day to advocate for science policy initiatives in meetings with members of Congress. This year, in addition to our Capitol Hill Day, we are organizing a Maryland General Assembly Visit. This gives us the opportunity to advocate for more specific state level issues, and to learn more about how state government functions.

For this visit, we are currently focused on three issues. The agenda of the legislature is still unclear, so these goals are subject to change. The current issues we plan to advocate on the behalf are:
  1. AI Regulation (see HB 1331)
  2. Public Transportation (see SB 881)
  3. Animal Testing (See Ch 448)*
