PeerCorps is a mentorship program inviting Jewish teens, b’nai mitzvah students from all denominations to build deep relationships with one another and engage in community-based volunteering in Pittsburgh.
Mentors (16- 18 year olds) begin with a Gesher Weekend at the end of February. This immersive weekend provides an opportunity for mentors to develop mentorship skills, self-awareness, critical thinking, and to deepen their understanding of justice through connecting Jewish values to learning about self and society.
March through May, Mentors will work and learn alongside b’nai mitzvah age students, “Mentees,” at designated service sites throughout Pittsburgh. Mentors continue their learning and leadership development through creating and facilitating Mentee learning as well as their own monthly learning sessions.
Mentors will receive a $250 stipend upon completion of the Spring 2018 program.
MENTOR COMMITMENT INCLUDES:
Gesher Weekend Mentor training
2 volunteer events per month at a designated site with Mentees
Monthly Education/Reflection Programs
Help with Mentee recruitment
Active and engaged role model alongside your Mentees
