Glenmont Local Park Area View - 3 Main Stewardship Project Areas
The IMPACT Silver Spring Green-Space garden design & Committee Responsibilities can be found below. Please read through and determine what project(s) interest you.

1) Communal Garden Space -  Plots offer 4'x8' Raised beds which can be utilized for fruit and vegetable gardening within a deer-exclusion fenced area. Each gardener will be allocated a raised bed(s) for their personal use.

Communal Garden Committee Responsibilities - co-create rules of engagement, finalize a design for the Communal Garden plot, and help install the garden fence.

This design also includes:
2) a Native Meadow with walking paths, native pollinator flowering groundcovers, shrubs, and trees that support a healthy ecosystem.

Meadow Pollinator Committee Responsibilities - plant natives, remove invasives, and help creating natural walking paths

3) and an open-access Potager Garden adjacent to the Communal garden area - this area could include flowering plants and vegetables that can be accessible to the greater Community.

Potager Garden Committee Responsibilities - create ADA accessible garden beds, and help beautify an open-access GreenSpace area.

Alternatively to the IMPACT design presented above, the  Communal GreenSpace could also be visualized in a more integrated manner as a Permaculture Food Forest

Please read through the section below for general guidelines of a Food Forest Garden.

What is the essence of a Permaculture Food Forest? Please see below for details

Communal (Raised Bed) Garden *Template Reference* - Raised bed gardens are useful to create rich soil mixes for organic gardening and create heights that are easier to grow in. This can be especially useful for individuals with mobility issues.
The above image depicts a raised bed garden, do you prefer to grow in raised beds? *
Communal Food-Security  (In-Ground Garden) *TEMPLATE* - Emphasis on increasing food production can be enhanced by focusing on in-ground garden beds as opposed to raised beds because their is more gardening space to grow.

By implementing an In-Ground garden design (i.e. pictured below) we could allocate 10 x 20 feet plots to residents to sign-up for personalized gardening, or we could cultivate the area in to 3-4' width raised mounds with walking paths in between to grow particular crops which could be maintained collectively and equitably distributed to all neighborhood gardeners (see picture below).
The above image shows In-Ground Garden beds, do you prefer to grow in-ground (as opposed to raised beds)?
*
Potager Garden *TEMPLATE* - A potager is a vegetable plot following the principles of garden design to create an area which is not only ornamental, but also productive.  It considers rhythm, line, color and texture, and a focal point to bring the whole design together.

The potager garden will be a 24 hr open-access garden that will allow persons who are not affiliated with the Glenmont Garden enclosure to also participate in the community gardening process.
The image above shows an example Potager Garden  - are you interested to support a similar project development in Glenmont Local Park? *
