The Solar Community Housing Association (SCHA) is a collective of housing co-ops owned by a non-profit with residents serving on the non-profit's board of directors. More information about SCHA, including mission and values statements, can be found on SCHA's website at

The Tri Co-ops and Domes are cooperative co-housing communities on the UC Davis Campus where residents must be UC Davis students. The three off-campus houses -- Sunwise, J Street & Corner -- are owned by SCHA and house both students and non-students.
The off-campus co-ops have strict income limits, while the on-campus co-ops strive to provide low-income housing but do not have strict income limits.
SCHA is not like conventional rental housing. As members of the cooperative, residents are expected to participate in labor and governance for their own co-ops but also for the wider organization. Sitting on committees or serving on the Board of Directors, attending Annual Meeting and work parties at other co-ops, and organizing educational workshops are some ways that members can serve the organization. When all members participate, the amount of labor each individual is expected to contribute should be very manageable - like they say... "Many hands make light work."
This application was designed to make it easy for you to apply to multiple SCHA co-ops at once. In addition to filling out the application, we will be hosting (virtual) informational sessions and tours in around February and March to give you the opportunity to interact with current members and and to learn about the responsibilities and expectations of being a co-op member.
We recommend that you allow as much time as you need to complete the application, as this form contains many sections. We also recommend that you complete the answers on a separate document so you won’t lose your answers. A copy of your application will automatically be emailed to you when you submit the application.
