2026 Volunteer Application
The Perth Comic Arts Festival is back once again, and once again we'll need some help! PCAF is made possible by the incredible volunteers that help us over the festival weekend - thank you for putting your hand up!

Festival Information
This year's main festival will be held on Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th of July, at the State Library of Western Australia.

Friday Night is the opening of the Festival: Look Hear, our combined comics and live music event, happening this year at The Bird from approximately 7pm.

Saturday is Academy Day, with a focus on talks and informative presentations from experts in the comics field. Academy Day runs from approximately 10.30am - 5pm.

Sunday is Market Day, where local and interstate artists sell their comics to the public in the PCAF Market Hall. There are also guest signings, workshops, and activities happening throughout the day. Market Day runs from approximately 10.30am - 4pm.

Which roles are you interested in? *
Green Room Attendant: The green room is a place for guests, exhibitors, committee and volunteers to place their belongings and eat their lunch. Sitting at the entrance of the room, the Attendant checks that each person entering is wearing a PCAF lanyard or Exhibitor badge. People without one are not allowed to enter. The Attendant also keeps an eye on everyone’s belongings, and keeps the space tidy.

Guide: Over the weekend, Guides stand at either entrance to the library and help guide attendees to different parts of the venue. On Sunday, they will also assist the exhibitors on both floors of the Market Hall - this includes watching over guest’s tables while they are at workshops. This role requires a bit of standing/being on your feet, but Guides are welcome to sit nearby during quiet periods.

Lunch Helper: PCAF will be providing catered lunch to guests, exhibitors, staff and volunteers on Market Day (Sunday). Lunch Helpers will watch over and hand out the lunch packs (a checklist will be provided on the day). This role has the least amount of interfacing with the general public.

PCAF Info Desk Attendant: Info Desk Attendants will be greeting attendants and giving information, scanning/checking ticket entry to talks and workshops, and handling merchandise sales at the PCAF Info desk. Entry to our workshops and talks are free, but spots are limited, so attendees must register a free ticket for entry. The info desk will also be selling PCAF merch, so applicants should have experience with taking sales via Square (or similar retail experience). The info desk does not take cash sales.

Workshop Attendant: Assist the workshop facilitators with setting up and packing down activities, answering attendee questions, clearing out attendees at the end of the workshops, and resetting the space before the next one. Workshop Attendants are welcome to sit in on the workshops as well.

Look Hear Volunteer: Look Hear is the opening of the Festival on Friday night and combines live music and comics. Volunteers for Look Hear will help with setting up the space and assist performers with props and visual components. The ideal volunteer for this role would be someone who is tech savvy, comfortable at live music events, and able to attend the final rehearsal before the event.

Please note that some roles are only available for one specific day.

Please read the following before submitting your application:  *
  • Please disclose any conditions that may affect your volunteering experience (for example, if you cannot stand for long periods). We will do our best to accommodate you and are happy to discuss it further via email.
  • If you are feeling unwell in the lead-up to PCAF, please let the volunteer coordinator know as soon as possible. This helps us adjust the roster accordingly. Please do not attend PCAF if you are unwell.
  • If you are feeling unwell during your volunteer shift, please let the nearest PCAF committee member know (they will be wearing yellow aprons with the PCAF logo). You are welcome to leave your shift at any time if you don’t feel your best - as long as you are physically okay to do so AND you inform a committee member.
  • Anything more serious that requires immediate medical attention, please inform a committee member OR library security guard (dressed in black) OR library staff member and they will assist accordingly.
  • Be aware of the time throughout the day. If you have chosen multiple roles, you may be helping at different places at specific times.
  • Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the weekend. There are multiple places to re-fill your water bottle in the State Library.
  • As a volunteer, you are representing PCAF. Please review the PCAF Code of Conduct before submitting your application. In 2026 we will be utilising Volunteer Captains - please follow your captain's directions!
  • If your shift has finished and you are done with volunteering, please move out of staffed areas. Similarly, if you are asked to finish your shift, please do so. Preventing crowding of staffed areas is vital and if you are not volunteering, please move to public areas of the festival.
  • Remember to give back your lanyard & hi-vis vest at the end of your shift!
