The UW Geological Museum, with help from the Digital Coe Library and the Paleontological Society, designed an educational augmented reality (AR) smartphone app to display 3D models of fossil and rock specimens. Visitors will be able to snag educational cards of different critters displayed in the museum. Each card will display a 3D overlay of the actual fossil that folks can take home!
We are in the testing phase and need your help to determine who uses the app and cards, if the cards were useful, and suggestions for new cards. Please help us out by answering the following questions below.
First, download the app here:
For iOS users, you can find the app here:
http://bit.ly/wyofossilmacFor Android users, it's here:
http://bit.ly/wyofossildroid(Or search in your app store for WyoFossil).
Open the app, point your camera at the informational card below (or better yet, print it out), and go crazy. Move the card around, spin it, move your camera all over the place.
Thank you for your help!
Note: like any app that accesses your camera, by both iOS and Android standards, it's mandatory that we ask permission to turn on your camera first! The app simply toggles on your camera and loads up the AR program. At no point do we access your photos, videos, or data. You can visit our privacy policy if you'd like more information:
