Welcome! We're excited to invite you to join a unique opportunity aimed at developing leaders and storytellers within our community. This multi-faceted program is designed for diverse students in grades 8-12 who are passionate about art, storytelling, and making a meaningful impact to take part in a series of events hosted by Bring on the Sunshine

The following events include:

1) Youth Orientation Session (Recurring): SDG Idea Factory, 2 King St W Suite 100, Kitchener, ON N2G 1A3

Welcome youth participants to the projects, roles, expectations and overview of the program.

2) 90 Minute Walking Tour (Past) at 150 Frederick Street, Kitchener  https://maps.app.goo.gl/GDF2CqjsYQKmXTaw5):

Learn about Berlin's connection to the early Black settlers of the Queens Bush settlement, visit former sites where Black residents lived, had businesses, schooled in the 19th century, and contributions to our community.

3) Elder Storytelling Session 1 & 2 (Past) at United College GreenHouse Room 164 (Waterloo) 190 Westmount Road N. Waterloo, Ontario N2L 3G5

An Indigenous elder will share traditional Turtle Island story, provide cultural teachings and historical perspectives that will guide the themes and activities for the rest of the program.

4)  Workshop Delivery Training 1 & 2 (Session 2 Upcoming): SDG Idea Factory, 2 King St W Suite 100, Kitchener, ON N2G 1A3

Youth will deepen their understanding of African history, culture, and contemporary issues. Main activities include interactive hands-on training on how to deliver an effective workshop to a diverse audience.

5) Youth Event Planning Orientation (Upcoming):SDG Idea Factory, 2 King St W Suite 100, Kitchener, ON N2G 1A3

Youth will learn how to organize and execute an event, gain hands-on experience in event logistics, teamwork, and leadership, empowering them to create meaningful experiences for their peers and community.

6) Knowledge Hub Event Pre Launch (Past): SDG Idea Factory, 2 King St W Suite 100, Kitchener, ON N2G 1A3

Youth participants will preview the Knowledge Hub, our new virtual educational toolkit. They will explore the platform's features, discover the diverse resources available, and provide feedback to help refine the Hub before its official launch.

7) Mural Brainstorm and Drumming in the Park (Past) Victoria Park, 80 Schneider Ave, Kitchener, ON N2G 1K9

Youth will engage in a creative brainstorming session to develop themes for a community mural, followed by an interactive drumming circle. This activity will encourage artistic expression and collaboration, connecting cultural storytelling with visual and musical arts.

8) Mural Paint Session with Artist  in Woolwich (Past) Woolwich Memorial Centre, 24 Snyder Ave S, Elmira, ON N3B 1Y9

Youth will collaborate closely with a local artist, channeling the themes learned, to design a mural that narrates the stories of the communities to be displayed publicly.

9) Youth Away Day (Upcoming): 10 Huron Rd, Kitchener, ON N2P 2R7

Youth will participate in a day-long excursion to the Ken Seiling Museum, where they will engage in interactive learning about the history of Black and Indigenous communities in rural Ontario. The day will include team-building activities designed to foster leadership skills, cultural understanding, and a sense of community among participants.

10) Knowledge Hub Launch (Upcoming)

Youth will take an active role in the official launch of the Knowledge Hub, showcasing the platform to the public. They will learn event coordination, public speaking, and how to effectively present digital resources to a diverse audience.

11) Post Launch Workshop Session/Knowledge Hub Discussion/Evaluation (Upcoming):

Team debrief and discussions on project themes and insights gained from the Programs.
