This is Guelph Spoken Word’s official call for submissions to artist / facilitators for programming inclusion at the 16th Annual Canadian Festival of Spoken Word (CFSW) - a national, week-long spoken word festival and slam tournament taking place October 13-19, 2019 in Guelph, Ontario.

This year's theme of 'Discovery' focuses on 'The Story Within Us.' Through programming selections, the festival will invite patrons and artists alike to explore their personal stories with a fresh perspective, shedding light on the intricacies, uniqueness, and seemingly undiscovered elements of their own lives.

CFSW is most known for the highly stylistic spoken word poetry that is common in poetry slam competitions, but this edition will highlight spoken word in its various expressions including, but not limited to: storytelling, comedy, and lyricism. Integration of these styles into the festival's traditional programming will broaden audience- and artist-understanding of the art form, inviting creators to explore new tools in their personal practice. The theme seeks to stir conversation of our shared spaces and beloved art forms to uncover alternate perspectives, ideas, and applications in our lives.

As the official 2019 Festival Organizing Committee (FOC), we are committed to following the values and mandates set out by the festival's governing body currently known as SpoCan.
