Call for applications: Champion building support for investigative story projects on women and girls’ rights
Since 2014, the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) has led the Report Women! programme to address the underrepresentation and poor coverage of issues affecting girls and women. Through training, advocacy, research, and mentorship, we have supported over 150 reporters, produced impactful investigations, and advanced newsroom leadership for women through the Female Reporters Leadership Programme (FRLP), which has trained 86 fellows and reached thousands. WSCIJ now invites male and female investigative reporters to apply for story and leadership project support through the Champion Building component of the Report Women! News and Newsroom Engagement project, supported by the Gates Foundation. This call focuses on investigative projects that hold power accountable for violations of the rights of women and girls as human rights.

Applicants are expected to propose investigative reporting or leadership projects that:
  1. Expose abuse of power or systemic injustices affecting girls and women.
  2. Challenge harmful policies, practices, or neglect by government, institutions, or other actors.
  3. Promote accountability in the protection and advancement of women’s and girls’ rights as fundamental human rights.
  4. Increase the presence and perspectives of women and girls in media through in-depth, evidence-based reporting.
  5. Investigate the restrictions to women in political leadership
  6. Advance the development or implementation of gender policies in media organisations.

Open to both male and female investigative reporters.
