"Voice is a Revolution! Personal Healing to Change the Larger Narrative"
Participants are asked to bring a photo of themselves. This begins the journey. Using exercises from her "Claiming Face" curriculum, Maya leads people through beautiful portraits to personal stories and finally toward larger healing narratives as the day's workshop progresses. This will be an opportunity to experience not only the exercises of art and writing with Maya, but also learn about the insight and presence that lead to and support creativity as a tool for personal transformation and social change. No creative experience or proclivity necessary, only the call to attend and claim your voice.

Gonzalez identifies as a queer illustrator, author, progressive educator and publisher. The largely self-taught, award-winning, artist has illustrated over 20 books and written and illustrated a number of her own.

Since 1996, Maya has been providing presentations to children and educators about the importance of creativity as a tool for personal empowerment. Her work with children in public schools helped her develop several lines of curriculum that offer a holistic approach to learning and open doors to new ways of thinking and relating in the world.
