In May 2025, about 56,000 children turning 4 by the end of the year
were offered spots in the city’s pre-K program, in addition to the 44,000
children offered spots in 3-K. However, many of these offered
seats aren't a good fit for families due to commute times, hour
conflicts, or other challenges (see recent coverage in CHALKBEAT).
There is a newly-renovated, vacant, ready-to-go early childhood education space located in Council District 6’s Lincoln Square neighborhood, but the Department of Education says not enough demand exists to open it for students. If you have one or
more children turning four in 2025, 2026, 2027, or 2028 and you would be interested
in sending them to this space, please fill out our District 6 Pre-K Survey.
