-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Pueblo Unido offers legal and social navigation, interpretation for Indigenous languages, and free community workshops. We believe your community could benefit from the services we offer. We have developed a series of workshops for the ECO program, related to defensive asylum and self-help services. They are delivered in Spanish or from English to the target language, with simultaneous interpretation and headsets for participants.
English workshop list.
1) Accessing and Using ECO (Available only for OR residents) - In this workshop participants will learn about the Equity Corps of Oregon (ECO) program that offers free legal immigration services They will learn who is eligible, how to apply, the participant's journey, and what the program helps with. (Aprox 30 minutes)
2) Core Knowledge: Immigration Proceedings - In this workshop, participants will learn about immigration processes focused on a defensive asylum process. They will learn about hearings, documents, and how to protect their right to pursue their case. (Aprox 1 hour)
3) Core Knowledge: Asylum - In this workshop participants will learn about the contents of an asylum application and important dates. This module is ideal for people who are seeking asylum or people who would like to learn more about the process. This workshop was created by Latino Network. (Aprox 1 hour).
4) Self-Help: Documents 101 - In this workshop, participants will learn about immigration documents and the differences between the different agencies that could be involved in their cases. (Aprox 30 minutes).
5) Family Preparedness Plan: The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with the necessary information on the various ways to structure a family plan in case of an ICE detention or deportation. It will also address how to ensure that children are protected and cared for by a trusted person, guaranteeing their emotional and physical well-being in emergency situations. The workshop will also offer practical tools for establishing clear and effective communication within the family and how to organize available resources to safely deal with any eventuality. (Aprox 2 hours).
6) Core Knowledge-Detention: This workshop is designed to help individuals and families prepare for the risk of possible detention by ICE. We will learn who might be at risk of detention, how to reduce that risk, and how to prepare in advance, including creating a legal and family plan. We will also learn what to do if detained, the legal options available, and how to support a family member who has been detained by ICE, ensuring that each person is better prepared to protect their rights and those of their family in the event of a potential ICE detention. (Aprox 2 hours).
7) Self-Help: Services 101 - In this workshop, participants will learn how to use and create an email account, how to scan documents, and how to use the postal service. (Aprox 1.5 hours) (Max participants 4-6 ppl per session)
8) Self-Help: Services 201 - In this workshop, participants will learn how to identify a nonprofit organization and navigate the Internet safely to find the resources they need. (Aprox 1.5 hours) (Max participants 4-6 ppl per session)
9) Compartiendo Nuestra Historia – (Available in Spanish and by direct invitation only)
The purpose of this mental health-focused workshop is to take the first step—or continue the process—of healing from trauma-related emotions in a safe, anonymous, and community-based environment with others who have experienced similar situations. The session will be supported by professionals who will offer guidance and tools to continue the healing process in a healthy way, along with resources available in our language. (Aprox 2 hours – Maximum of 6 participants)
Please note: We schedule workshops 4-6 weeks in advance. They are only offered from Tuesday to Thursday and may be presented in groups of two or three. Except, the Self-Help-Services 101 and 201 workshops, as these require individualized attention from the presenters to the participants.
Interpretation: If the workshop is presented with interpretation, simultaneous interpretation is required, from English or Spanish to a target language. Please anticipate an increase in time of at least 25% due to interpretation and participant questions and answers.
The workshops are completely free to the requester agency and the community. The only help we need from you is to promote the event safeguarding participants, a screen to show our slides and the space to present.
