We want to ensure that paddling with the club is as safe as it can be. As part of this and in keeping with Paddle UK's latest guidelines, we need to maintain a list of club Approved Supervisors to lead river groups and river decision-making by 'supervised-groups' on trips, which we validate on an annual basis. This also means that club members who lead on trips will be covered by insurance when they coach or lead on club activities.
Our River Supervisors play a crucial role in enabling the club to run safely. We actively encourage all club members to develop their river safety and leading skills and become competent as independent paddlers and river leaders while paddling with the club. We provide training subsidies to support this. We also always ensure there is a good balance of strength and experience in river groups, which allows us to provide opportunities for newer members to continually develop river reading, safety and leading skills.
To apply to be an Approved Club Supervisor (Leader) please complete this form giving details of skills and experience. This will be reviewed by the RCC Leadership Remits Group, who will recommend members for sign-off to the RCC Committee.
There are some minimum requirements that will need to be met, including having completed a PUK White Water Safety and Rescue course and any First Aid (or equivalent courses and experience will be considered). Members will also need either:
- A PUK leadership qualification in relevant remit; OR
- Two recommendations from other club members who are signed off in the remit you are applying for or higher (pls ask them to send these to remit@regentscanoeclub.co.uk)
