Shadowing is not required, and it does not impact student acceptance into the program. Some students find that shadowing a current CSI freshman helps them to better understand our program, it's culture, and the unique opportunities it provides. Students struggling with program preference, or whether to apply to a program at all, may request a shadowing opportunity.
To lessen disruptions to our current CSI students, we respectfully request that only students who genuinely NEED the experience to make a decision request a shadowing experience. Students who plan to apply only to CSI or who know that CSI is their first choice may be granted a shadowing request upon acceptance into the program.
To request a shadowing experience, please fill out the form below. You will be contacted via email to confirm. We have limited space, so while we will try to accommodate all requests, this may not be possible.
On the day of the confirmed shadow experience, please arrive at the Instructional Resource Center (14201 Canal Road, Sterling Heights 48313) between 7:30 am and 7:40 am. Please do not park in the bus loop. Enter through the center doors of the building and ask for Mrs. Schimelfening. Students will have a freshman host and will attend the three freshman classes with that student. The morning session ends at 10:30 am at which time student can be picked up by parent or he/she can take a UCS bus to return to his/her junior high school for the remainder of the day (NOTE: there is NO BUS that travels to BEMIS at 10:30, so all Bemis students must be picked up by a parent). Parents must call the school to excuse the student absence for the morning.
To be eligible for enrollment in UCS specialty programs, students must be residents within the Utica Community Schools' attendance boundaries OR enrolled as a school choice 8th grader at the beginning of the year of application.
Please complete the following form and you will be contacted to schedule your shadow experience.
