Graham Cracker Auditions 2024
Ambo Dance Theatre is thrilled to invite adult, teen, and young dancers (ages 9+) to audition for our 2024 Graham Cracker production!  The Graham Cracker is our original, queer-positive, modern dance parody of the classic winter ballet, the Nutcracker. All dancers and movers are invited to audition regardless of background or experience with modern dance. 

This year's production of The Graham Cracker will take place on December 6-8 in the Pamela Brown Theatre at Actors Theatre! More detailed information on the time commitment, tech week schedule, and other blackout are outlined in the form below.

There is a $20 audition fee to cover the presence of our professional adjudicators. This form will redirect you to the payment platform for our audition fee after you submit.

Please bring a water bottle, a headshot and resume (if you have one), and please wear dance attire or athletic wear to the audition. 

If you are accepted into the production, there will be a $150 production fee for participation. If you need financial assistance, please let us know as we have ways to accommodate and don’t want to be cost prohibitive. All fees are waived for active Unlimited Class Card holders.

The Graham Cracker is the start of Ambo's annual performance season. This audition, while primarily for this specific show, is also where we make offers for annual contracts for paid Professional Company Member positions (adults 18+), as well as youth Pre-Professional Company Member (ages 12-17) and Junior Company Member (ages 9-12) positions! If you are interested in auditioning to be a member of the Ambo Dance Theatre Company, you will be able indicate your interest in this form. This is not, however, a requirement for participation!

GRAHAM CRACKER PERFORMER CONFLICT DATES:

Please let us know of any major conflicts (i.e. out of town, consistent non-availability, etc.) between September 15th and December 8th.

We will do our best to cast and schedule you around your conflicts, but please understand that this may not be possible.

ATTENDANCE POLICY: 

We consider every Cast Member to be vital and important. Because we take all roles very seriously, we ask that you (or your child) take your participation seriously as well. All Cast Members are expected to commit to attending ALL scheduled rehearsals and performances. 

All cast members are permitted 2 excused absences on their scheduled rehearsal days. These are to be reported on this form and approved by the Directorial Team prior to contracts being signed during our September 15th meeting. There are no permitted absences on All Call rehearsal dates, tech week dates, or performance dates. Any additional or unexpected absences need to be discussed with the Directorial Team. Absences beyond what are reported and approved in advance of the start of the rehearsal and contract period are handled on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Directorial team, but may result in consequences such as being moved to an understudy position, or being removed from the production entirely.

Please carefully review all blackout dates (All Call Rehearsal dates, Tech Week dates, and Performance dates) to determine if you (or your child), if cast, are ready to join us for this exciting production.

We will provide a complete rehearsal schedule to those who are cast.

Our formal Information Session and Contract Signing is scheduled for Sunday, September 15th (times TBD) to give more details about our expectations and address any questions you may have regarding your participation. We will provide the time for this meeting following your audition.

REHEARSAL COMMITMENT:
 Rehearsal time blocks can typically be up to 2-4 hours at a time. Depending on their role(s), Cast members may be required to regularly rehearse 1-3 days per week leading up to Tech Week for the show, excluding All Call days. The average role rehearses approximately 7 hours/week, though commitments vary based on your performance track. Your individual rehearsal schedule will be released following auditions once casting is complete, no later than Wednesday, September 11, 2024. *There will be no rehearsals during the week of Thanksgiving. But there will be a Mandatory tech on Sunday, December 1st. What size role feels appropriate for you? *
GRAHAM CRACKER PRODUCTION FEE

There is a $150 production fee to participate in The Graham Cracker. This is a nonrefundable fee and is due on September 15th during the Informational and Contract Signing Meeting.

The Production Fee is waived for dancers with an active Unlimited Class Pass during the duration of the show. Fees will also vary or may be waived if you are signing on for an annual contract with the Ambo Dance Theatre Professional Company, Pre-Professional Company, or Junior Company.  *
