The current CDC COVID-19 Community Level is:
In Alameda County the community level is Low.
UPDATE 01/20/23:  The CDC Community Level in Alameda County shifted from MEDIUM to LOW. The following changes are now in effect at all Lab sites:
Non-business guests may once again visit Lab sites.
Please submit all requests for business and non-business guests, vendors, ride shares, and staff pick-up and drop-off drivers in advance in the Lab’s Site Access Management System.
Physical distancing and avoiding crowds is voluntary.
The following safety measures still apply:
1. Face covers are required when in B26 Health Services. They remain voluntary in the following situations:
  • In all other indoor Lab locations.
  • On Lab shuttles.
  • When sharing government vehicles.
Face covers are not required outdoors. Review the Lab’s Face Covering Guidance for more information about face covers.
2. Weekly COVID testing is optional for all. If you have had exposure (close contact) to someone with COVID, testing is required after Day 5.
Note: Day 0 is the day of your last exposure to someone with COVID-19.
Effective January 5, 2023, a new negative COVID-19 testing requirement will be in effect for anyone entering the United States from China, Hong Kong, or Macau, even if transiting through other airports. More information is in this CDC press release.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT come to any Lab site or interact with others on official business if you tested positive for COVID-19 or have any symptoms. This helps prevent the spread of cold, flu, COVID-19, and other respiratory illnesses. According to the CDC, you cannot easily distinguish between symptoms of the flu or COVID-19. Contact Health Services at 510-486-6266 and follow their guidance for returning to the Lab.
** This benefits us all by helping to ensure that we can stay as healthy as possible during this winter season. **
REMINDER: If you have been exposed to someone with COVID or who tested positive you do NOT need to quarantine or call Health Services, as long as you are asymptomatic. You must wear a mask for 10 full days when around others indoors, get tested after Day 5 following the exposure, and follow these CDC guidelines for exposure.
Note: Day 0 is the day of your last exposure to someone with COVID-19.
The Lab's COVID website — covid.lbl.gov — shows the current Community Level and a matrix showing all of the COVID requirements at-a-glance.
