Did you know that San Diego is home to the fourth largest population of homeless individuals in the United States, and the third largest population of homeless veterans? Volunteering with St. Vincent de Paul provides you an opportunity to serve our community by providing our hungry neighbors with a much needed meal.
Located in downtown San Diego, Father Joe's Village or St Vincent de Paul is the largest rehabilitation center for the homeless in San Diego, housing over 1,500 men, women, and children living at the village each day in addition to providing medical, education, career, and child care support services. The facility serves over 3,000 meals each day to food insecure community members (homeless and non-homeless), who otherwise could go hungry or be forced to panhandle to meet this basic need. Without volunteers, they could not provide this program to feed our hungry neighbors.
Volunteers will help serve either a lunch (10:30am - 1pm) or dinner (4pm - 7pm) on Friday, April 21, 2017 or Friday, April 28, 2017. This project requires you to sign a liability waiver, A Volunteer Memorandum of Agreement for Father Joe's Villages, and Food Handling survey. These will take you a maximum of 5 mins to sign - do not be afraid.
Please do not bring any valuables, money or personal belongings with you as Father Joe's Village does not have facilities for safekeeping items.
Grossmont Gives Back is organized by the Grossmont College Community Service Learning Program and Student Affairs.
Please visit the community service website http://www.grossmont.edu/campus-life/csl/ for more information and to access the liability release forms.
