Fasting for Gaza Caravan

CALL TO ACTION for DAY #38
Saturday, 28 June
Join Maine’s FASTING FOR GAZA CARAVAN

On Saturday, 28 June, join us in a FASTING FOR GAZA CARAVAN to show support for over 2 million Palestinians in Gaza experiencing severe malnutrition from forced starvation. Uplift the demands of 700 hunger strikers and fasters across Maine and around the country who have been striking to pressure our government to stop funding and participating in genocide and war crimes against the people of Gaza. On day 38 of the 40-day nationwide mass fast, the Maine Coalition for Palestine and community members will drive across our state from north to south along Route 1 through all the summer tourist spots.

This is a chance for everyone to participate – hunger strikers, fasters, supporters, young and old from communities across the state. Organize a car, decorate it with expressions of solidarity, and bring friends and family to join the caravan for all or part of the journey in this highly visible demonstration of support for the people of Gaza and the 38 Maine hunger strikers/fasters and their demands:

  1. The immediate resumption of humanitarian aid, under UN authority, to Gaza
  2. U.S. stop arming Israel NOW!

The convoy will start in Eastport with pick-up locations along Route 1 in Ellsworth, Bucksport, Belfast, Camden, Damarscotta and Brunswick. The Caravan will end in Portland with a send-off rally for a Maine contingent of strikers and fasters who will continue southward to New York City. There strikers and fasters will be converging with the core group of fasters in front of the UN for a press conference marking the final day of the 40 Days and Escalate: Veterans & Allies Fast for Gaza on Monday, 30 June.

Pledge your participation below and let us know where you will plan to join the caravan. If you can’t join the caravan, you can be part of a standout cheering the group on in each of the pick up spots.

Background: On May 22, people from all over Maine launched a forty-day hunger strike and fast. Now nearly 40-strong, we are responding with moral outrage to the blockade of food and all other humanitarian aid in to Gaza and continued US arms supplies to Israel, in violation of US and international law. We join over 700 people nationwide responding to the call from Veterans for Peace to fast and strike for Gaza. Many have committed to consume only 250 calories per day, in-line with the caloric intake of 90% of Gazans under the ongoing Israeli military blockade. This is a starvation diet, and Mainers are starving themselves to protest our government’s inaction and complicity.

Despite our demands, the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate beyond the unimaginable and our country remains shamelessly complicit. 2 million people are being starved to death under constant bombardment in plain sight of the whole world while:

  • US supplied bombs continue to kill
  • US weapons enforce the blockade on humanitarian aid
  • US again vetoes a ceasefire resolution at the UN blocks global efforts to end the genocide

STOP THE STARVATION - STOP THE BOMBING - STOP THE GENOCIDE
