Home attendants in NYC work brutal 24-hour workdays, often several days in a row, without sleep or rest, caring for people who need round-the-clock care. Instead of splitting this vital care service into multiple shifts carried out by two or more workers, insurance companies widely assign 24-hour shifts to one worker alone! 24-hour shifts destroy home attendants' physical and mental health and deprive care recipients of the best quality care.

This is a crime against humanity! One more day of delay is one more day of thousands of workers —predominantly women of color— continuing to work sleeplessly to the point that they suffer from debilitating illnesses and injuries. New York City is the cultural and financial capital of the United States, yet it's here and here alone that workers are forced into working 24 hours, 72 hours, 96+ hours nonstop! If we don't do something to stop it now, it is doomed to be a massively profitable industry model that will spread world wide, and more lives will perish. 

For the health and well-being of people with illnesses and injuries and the home attendants who care for them, we/I endorse the call to END THE 24-HOUR WORKDAY!
