Yearbook Application For Current 7th Graders
Thank you for showing interest in joining yearbook next year! We're looking for artists, graphic designers, photographers, and writers to help make our yearbook.

This application has three parts: 
1) A series of questions about you
2) A tryout with some activities for you to complete
3) A letter of recommendation to send to at least one of your teachers. 

The application and letter of recommendation need to be completed and sent to me by midnight on May 15th. 

Students will be selected for the class based on their answers to questions about themselves, the tryout, and the letter of recommendation. If you have any questions, please feel free to stop by room 420 or email me at cbrude@nmusd.us or message me on Schoology.

Part 1: About You

Every yearbook has a theme. Some may be about a current event. Some may be just an inspirational message, such as one year's theme "Out of the Blue", which was about learning to live with life's surprises. Others may deal with current events in the school, such as last year's theme "Our 25th Year in the Making" which referred to the fact that last year was the 25th edition of the middle school yearbook. Below, list any ideas you may have for a yearbook theme and explain how the theme could relate to school.   *

Section 2: Tryouts
The yearbook class features three areas of focus: writing, photography, and graphic design. Therefore, this form features a tryout for each of those three areas. However, you'll notice that none of the tryouts are required. This means that you can complete one, two, or all three of the tryouts. Feel free to complete only the tryouts for the areas that interest you.

For example, if you have a passion for writing, you can complete just that tryout. Same with photography or graphic design. 

If you need help during the tryout, I'll be available on Zoom between 3:35 & 4:15pm on May 5th & 12th to answer any questions you may have. My Zoom room is: https://nmusd.zoom.us/j/8727310325. If you're on campus, I can be reached in room 420 any time during the school day for help.

1st Tryout: Writing----In the space below, you're going to write an article about what one of our 8th Grade science teachers, Mrs. Wembley, does with her class. If you've never heard of this teacher or this project, don't worry. Linked below is a list of all the facts that a student would need to know in order to write an article. Your task is to choose which facts are important, which quotes are informative, and then weave those ideas into an interesting article. 2nd Tryout---Photography: For this tryout, you're going to open the link below and find 21 photos that we took over this past school year. Your task is to choose three that you really like and explain what makes them successful photos. Then, choose three photos that you think need to be improved and how you, as a photographer, would change them to make them better. 3rd Tryout: Graphic Design----You're going to give your opinion on a couple of layouts and explain what you like & don't like about how they were designed. Imagine that the designer had a blank workspace & then chose to fill it with the pictures and text in the way they did. What works for you? What catches your eye? What how would you improve the design to make it more appealing to someone reading the yearbook? Be as specific as possible. Here's layout 1:

Section 3: Letter of Recommendation
The last step of applying for this class is to ask a teacher to submit the following letter of recommendation for you. If you'd like to send them a link, use this one. Your teachers will also receive the link via email and on Schoology. Letters must be received by midnight on May 15th.
