Document the Harm: The End of Extra COVID SNAP in Massachusetts
Since April 2020 Massachusetts SNAP households have been issued extra COVID SNAP benefits (also known as "Emergency Allotments"). All households received at least $95/mo extra SNAP and many received more. These "Emergency Allotments" will end on March 2, 2023. For more information, visit Mass.gov/extraCOVIDSNAP

The Massachusetts Law Reform Institute (MLRI) - a statewide poverty law center - is working with community organizations to let the MA Legislature and Congress know how the loss of SNAP is impacting low income households in the Commonwealth. Please share with the MLRI what you are hearing from families or experiencing yourself due to the end of the SNAP extra Covid benefits. Having stories of the hardships households face will help us defend against potential SNAP cuts on a federal level in the future, as well as bolster state level efforts to try to respond to the need.

At the end of January,  MA Governor Maura Healey filed a "Supplemental Budget" which asks the MA Legislature to provide funds to give SNAP households 3 months of extra SNAP -  at 40% of the federal extra SNAP level. This will help reduce the harm. Your feedback on this form can help support that effort! MLRI also encourages you to reach out to your State Representative and Senator to ask them to support this funding and quickly approve it!
