Brief synopsis:  A Very Peter Pan-to, written by Erica Elias, Megan Rach, and Maya Strasser and directed by Tyler Thomas, is a British-style pantomime  - a family-friendly show loosely based on the story of Peter Pan. In it, a grandfather reads his favourite novel to his sick grandchild (do you already have a sense of déjà vu?). The story centres on a boy who refuses to grow up and lives in the magical land of Neverland with the Lost Boys. During a night in The Big City, he encounters Wendy and her brothers, who are brought to Neverland, and they embark on adventures with pirates, hippies, and the fearsome Croc. We meet Captain Hook and his band of pirates, who are seeking emotional and material damages after Peter fed Hook’s hand to a crocodile. Join grandfather as he weaves the tale of adventure, fun, and civic responsibility. (We promise, no kissy parts.)

Cast of characters and descriptions/requirements

Peter:  Peter’s sprightly, a bit of a trickster, and necessarily quick-witted to outsmart Captain Hook. That said, he’s too big for his britches -- a braggadocious, lovable idiot always looking for his next adventure. The role requires light (not necessarily great) singing and someone who moves well. This role involves some stage combat.

Captain Hook/Mr. Darling: Two roles played by the same actor. Mr. Darling is a small role representing a “proper” 1950s father, not totally present. Captain Hook is the "baddie" seeking revenge on Peter for feeding his hand to a crocodile. A classic kids' villain -- flamboyant and sinister; regal but a bit desperate; and a blend of elegance and villainy. Similar energy to Dustin Hoffman in Hook.  The role of Captain Hook involves some stage combat.

Tinkerbell (male): The classic pantomime dame (a man dressed as a woman, but not in a drag queen way). Smoky lounge singer/aged Hollywood starlet who has been around the block and projects an overbearing stage mom energy. Interacts with the audience and is a master at backhanded compliments. Moderate amount of singing - being able to carry a tune is a bonus.  If interested in the Dame role, check out Ian McKellen's fine example at https://facebook.com/watch/?v=1581488852440481.

Smee: Pirate sidekick to the villain, serving Captain Hook. Role involves very light singing and some physical slapstick comedy.

Esmee: Similar to Smee, Hook’s second bumbling sidekick. The two are each other's love interest. Role involves very light singing and some physical slapstick comedy.

Wendy:  Wendy has been socialized by her parents to be the Good, Responsible Girl. She takes care of her brothers, and doesn’t get to be much of a kid. Curious and nurturing, she wants to be part of the game, but doesn’t find her place until the end of the show. Should be strong with singing and movement. This role involves some stage combat.

John:  Wendy's brother John is a bit of a Bubble Kid, afraid of everything, allergic to everything, and doesn’t really enjoy Neverland.  hypochondriac, and always prepared. Group singing only.

Michael: Wendy's youngest brother Michael is the cuter of the two and has a child-like wonder -- a bit of an "Um, actually" kid. Group singing only.

Mrs. Darling/Gemini Rising: Two roles played by the same actor. Inspired by Parker Posey's character in The White Lotus, Mrs. Darling is a demure, proper, cold, pearl-wearing, unobservant, and out-of-touch 1960’s housewife type, who has no problem leaving her young children alone in the care of the oldest child and a "dog". Gemini Rising is a hippie and is totally going with the flow. She and the other hippies are always getting the munchies and eating the Lost Boys’ food.

Croc: An Elton John impersonator in appropriately outrageous outfits. Motivated by human flesh, Croc entertains heavily through song and dance, therefore must be strong in in these areas.

Grandfather: The show's narrator, modelled after Peter Falk from Princess Bride. No singing or dancing required.

Grandchild:  The young child who is ill and prefers video games to books. Modelled after Fred Savage from Princess Bride. No singing.

Chorus: Roles for 6 or more shape-shifting chorus members who can sing and dance well and are prepared to happily change among various costumes and take on any extra activities identified as rehearsals progress.  Roles include The Lost Boys/The Pirates/The Fish/The Hippies/Nana (a pantomime animal known to the NAGs as Numpty and requiring two  actors)/Shadow/Barkeep. We are looking for people with a sense of fun and a willingness to look silly on stage. These roles involve some minor stage combat.
