Parental adverse childhood experiences, empathy, psychotherapy, and their role in parenting practices.
Dear
participant,
Overview of the study: I am a MSc student under the supervision of Alexandros Vallidis at
ICPS College for Humanistic Sciences. As part of my final project, I am
conducting research to explore the effects of parental adverse childhood
experiences on parenting behaviours. Specifically, the present study aims to
investigate how parental adverse childhood experiences affect subsequent
parental parenting behaviours and the mediating role of empathy and
psychotherapy.
Procedure: You have been asked to participate in this study as you are at
least 18 years of age and you are a parent of at least one child under the age of 18. Please read
the information sheet carefully and select whether you with to participate in
the study. Please read and respond to each question carefully. The estimated
completion time is 15-20 minutes.
Anonymity and confidentiality of
data: Any information that you give me will be treated in the strictest
confidence and the only person who will be able to read your data will be
myself, and my supervisor(s). Moreover, please note that this study is
anonymous and, as such, your name will not be included in any further analysis.
Your
participation in this research is voluntary and you are free to withdraw from
the study at any time (including while the study is still going on and data are
still being collected), in which case your data will be immediately deleted
from our database. I will store any information on a password
protected personal computer while I will destroy any information given on a
hardcopy in ten years from now (this is a standard period of time after which I
will have to delete any data in line with University guidelines).
How this study will help you: The results of the project will add valuable information on how
parental adverse childhood experiences are correlated with future parental behaviours
towards the child or children. It will furthermore explore the role that important
factors, such as empathy and psychotherapy play in parenting behaviours.
The person who is responsible for this project is Alexandros
Vallidis who can be contacted via email at a.vallidis@icps.edu.gr and you can
also contact the researcher, Nefeli Stampoltzi via email at
n.stampoltzi@student.icps.edu.gr.
All data that you provide will only be sent to the researcher when
you press “submit” and no data will be collected if you exit the questionnaire
without pressing submit. If you wish to withdraw your data after you have submitted
them, please e-mail the supervisor or the researcher using your unique identification number.
Thank you for taking the time to
read this information sheet.
