Neighbourhood Plan Survey
We ALL have the chance to influence future development and YOUR opinion counts - so please complete this Neighbourhood Plan Survey by 24th APRIL 2017

What’s happening?
The government has introduced a Localism Act to give residents more of a say in the development of their own parish. A key part of this is the creation of a Neighbourhood Plan by the local community and the Parish Council, which has legal status and will be used to influence future planning decisions for the Parish. We have started the process and attached is a map of the designated Neighbourhood Plan area which corresponds exactly to the Civic Parish

What’s the next step?
Please complete this questionnaire and tell us about what you think is important in planning for the future of our village:

Our aim is that this questionnaire will be completed by every household (and/or local business) but if another member of your household would like to complete a separate questionnaire, that’s fine. Hard copies can be obtained from the Parish Clerk on 01580 819048 or can be completed online.

How will my information be used?
The Questionnaire is anonymous and the findings will be used to make a draft plan reflecting the consensus views of the community as a whole. The information provided by you in this questionnaire will be used for neighbourhood planning purposes only. It will not be used in a manner which would allow identification of your individual responses. Your personal details will not be shared with any third parties.

When the Neighbourhood Plan has been completed, final approval will be sought by holding a formal referendum within the parish.

What is a Neighbourhood Plan?
A Neighbourhood Plan is the way for local people to influence the planning and development of the area in which they live and work. We intend that the Etchingham Neighbourhood Plan will last for 15 years and should:

• Develop a shared vision for the village.
• Choose where new homes, shops, offices and other development should be built.
• Influence how much housing should be built, and of what type.
• Identify and protect important local green spaces or other treasured assets.

Once approved, our plan will have legal force in setting out what development is acceptable in our Parish and for what reasons.

Developers and local authority planners will have to take notice of it.

Be Aware - With A Neighbourhood Plan we can influence development, but not stop it altogether.

Without a Neighbourhood Plan, we will have little control over any development that takes place and will receive less community funds from those developments.

Our Neighbourhood Plan must comply with Rother District Council’s Local Plan and the government’s wider policy of sustainable development. This means that it is almost inevitable that some new housing will have to be built in Etchingham in the future. Having a Neighbourhood Plan in place will help us ensure that this housing is suitable for the parish and meets the needs of our area. It will also help us to identify the facilities and services that need to be in place to meet the demands that any new housing will make upon our community.
