Application for 2019-20 CSUWP Writers Colony
The CSUWP Writers Colony is a yearlong opportunity for you to work with other educators to focus on a combination of personal writing in creative genres (e.g., poetry, personal essays, narrative, creative nonfiction, etc.) and writing for the profession (e.g., grant proposals, conference proposals, journal articles, etc.). You need not be an expert writer to participate in this program, but you must be committed to your own growth as a writer as well as to the development of a supportive writing community . *** It's important to know that the primary focus of our work will be on your own writing rather than the teaching of writing in your classroom. ***

The dates for the institute are as follows:

Summer Weeklong Institute
August 5-9 (9:00-3:30)

Saturday Sessions (9:00-3:30)
September 14
November 9
February 22
April 25

Participants who attend the full week during the summer, as well as the four Saturday sessions during the school year, will receive a $500 stipend, books, and the option to purchase up to six CSU graduate credits. The program is limited to educators in and outside of CSUWP. (In other words, it's not intended to be a workshop for professional writers at large.) Because Writers Colony is geared toward development of a small, intimate community, the program is capped at 10 participants.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Friday, June 14, 2019.

Why would you benefit from participation in the Writers Colony? In no more than 300 words, describe both how your participation will support your growth as a writer and how you will work to support this growth in other participants. Applicants will be selected based on their willingness to take emotional and intellectual risks oriented toward learning and growth as a writer; their commitment to writing, reading, reflecting, and thinking hard together in a community of writers; and their sense of professional responsibility--that is, their promise to attend all sessions in the summer and throughout the school year, complete the reading, and participate in all activities. *
