Kia ora and hello. My name is Alice Canton, and I'm a New Zealand born Chinese-Pakeha artist and performer. I'm interested in what it means to be Chinese in Aotearoa - because it isn't one, singular thing (it can be many things).
I'm currently working on a project for an upcoming exhibition at Blue Oyster Art Project Space (Dunedin/Ōtepoti). The work questions what it means to be Chinese in Dunedin, here and now in 2019.
I'm looking for volunteers to participate in a (fun) experimental film which will play as part of the work. If you identify as Chinese, and would like to be a part of something that celebrates and challenges maximum 'Chinese-ness' in Dunedin, then I want you!
It is a purely visual work, so you won't need to learn lines or 'act'.
As well as the afternoon of the film shoot, participants will need to attend a workshop rehearsal on ONE of the following dates:
- Tuesday 28 May, 7pm - 9pm- Wednesday 29 May, 7pm - 9pm- Thursday 30 May, 7pm - 9pm
Film shoot: Saturday 1 June, 2019 (schedule and location TBC - will be in the day time, in central Dunedin).
You can check out the history of the project here: https://whitemess.co.nz/projects/otherchinese
Register your interest below - and I'll be in touch with more details.
