CSQIEP LGBTQ+ Mentoring Program - Mentor Preferences Form
Thank you for signing up as a mentor for CSQIEP's new LGBTQ+ Mentoring Program! We greatly appreciate the time you are willing to commit to this. Please complete the questions below so that we have some information about you so that we can best match you with a mentee. The mentees are filling out a separate preferences form as well.
The program at this stage seeks to match mentees, who are Ph.D. students or junior faculty/researchers/economists, with mentors who are more senior. We are not currently accepting applications from Masters or undergraduate students for mentoring, but we may do so in the future.
***Before completing this form,*** please read the following mentor and mentee contract document here:
You are required to confirm that you agree to the contract before you can successfully complete the form. if you have questions or concerns about the contract, please contact us before completing this form.
If you are also interested in being a mentee (e.g., you are junior faculty and would like mentoring from someone senior) then please also complete the mentee form here:
Please let us know if you have any questions by emailing us at

In determining the best match for you, we need to balance a match based on field/career aspirations, and a match based on LGBTQ+ status or other demographic characteristics. For example, some mentors may prefer to mentor someone in a similar field of research, while others would prioritize having a mentee from a particular LGBTQ+ background (e.g., interested in mentoring trans students). As a first question to determine this weighting for you, please indicate how much weight you'd assign to matching based on field/career aspirations versus matching based on LGBTQ+ status or demographic issues. Select a number from 1 to 5, where 1 would be putting all the weight on field/career fit, and 5 would be putting all the weight on LGBTQ+ fit. A score of 3 suggests an equal balance. Questions below will allow you to elaborate on your choice here.
Match entirely based on field/career aspirations
Match entirely based on LGBTQ+ status
To what extent do you want a mentee from a particular LGBTQ+ or demographic background? Do you, for example, prefer to mentor someone of the same gender identity, sexual orientation, or racial or ethnic background? Please discuss these preferences below. If you have no strong preferences here then please note that. Note that we may not be able to completely fulfill any requests.
Would you prefer to mentor a PhD student or a junior economist/faculty? Select a number from 1 to 5, where 1 is a strong preference for PhD student, 5 is a strong preference for junior economists/faculty, and 3 is no preference.
Strongly prefer to mentor a PhD student
Strongly prefer to mentor a junior economist/faculty
Are there any groups or types of mentees that you don't feel qualified to mentor?
Do you have any other thoughts or suggestions on how to best match you with a mentee? Any other suggestions for us?
Given excess demand for mentorship (roughly two individuals requesting mentorship for each individual offering to be a mentor, would you consider taking on multiple mentees? If you do not respond to this question, the default will be to match you with one mentee. Moreover, please understand that we are incredibly grateful for your help if you can only mentor one economist. How many mentees are you willing to mentor?
Finally, please confirm that you have read and agree to the mentor and mentee contract document here:
If you have important questions or concerns about this, then please contact us before completing this form.
