As data science and AI have continued to permeate society, the National
Science Foundation (NSF) has introduced new programs in the foundations
of the data sciences and its applications to scientific problems. This
talk will provide an overview of some of NSF's activities and
opportunities in data science and related fields.
Dr. Alfred Hero is the John H. Holland Distinguished University
Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the R.
Jamison and Betty Williams Professor of Engineering at the University of
Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is currently on leave from the University of
Michigan as a Program Director in the CISE Directorate at the National
Science Foundation. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Society for Industrial and Applied
Mathematics (SIAM). He is a recipient of the Fourier Award in Signal
Processing from the IEEE.
