Chapter Executive Committee Positions
Co-Chair, Three Year Term. In accordance with the Chapter’s bylaws, Juan Thomas will remain as Co-Chair, Juan is in his third and final year. The second Co-Chair seat (serving two years) and the third Co-Chair seat (serving three years) are currently vacant. The Co-Chair(s) oversee all aspects of the Chapter, including discussions, programs, law school outreach, the Annual Legal Legends Luncheon, relationships with other organizations, and relationships with sponsors; recruit and manage relationships with key supporters; coordinate activities for the Board of Advisors and handle related issues; serve as mentor to other law school and lawyer chapter leaders across the country; participate in national chapter leader conference calls; respond to Chapter correspondence; and execute directives and respond to requests from ACS National. The Co-Chair(s) also liaise with ACS National, submit Chapter funding requests, maintain financial records of chapter activities, and submit information requested by ACS National, including the list of current Board members. The Co-Chair(s) have discretion to determine the division of duties and management of their functions.
Vice Chair(s). The Vice Chair(s) perform such duties as may be delegated by the Co-Chair(s). In the temporary absence of all Co-Chair(s), the Vice Chair(s) preside at Board meetings and oversee Chapter events.
Director of Programming. The Director of Programming organizes and executes programs; trains program directors; schedules and organizes quarterly program meetings; plans programs; works with potential and current co-sponsorship organizations; and ensures that program summaries, photos, and publicity are submitted to ACS National and posted on the Chapter’s website.
Director of the Legal Legends Luncheon. The Director of the Annual Legal Legends Luncheon is responsible for all aspects of the annual July luncheon, including sponsorships, logistics, marketing, and relationships with other key stakeholders. Co-Directors may fill this role.
Assistant Director of the Legal Legends Luncheon. With the Luncheon Director, this person assists with attendance, sponsorship outreach, and the logistics of the Legal Legends Luncheon.
Membership Recruitment and Retention. The Director of Membership Recruitment and Retention recruits and retains paid members of ACS National and, by virtue of their location, the Chapter, by spearheading membership recruitment efforts, contacting lapsed members and those whose membership is about to lapse, planning social activities, and planning and executing members-only benefits within the necessary parameters set forth by ACS National.
Director of Diversity and Lawyer Outreach. The Director of Diversity and Lawyer Outreach ensures that the Board maintains focus on improving diversity within the Chapter and the Board. With this mandate in mind, the Director of Diversity and Lawyer Outreach recruits and retains captains from targeted law firms, government organizations, and public interest organizations to serve as Chapter ambassadors within their workplace by promoting Chapter event attendance and membership; organizes informal Chapter happy hours; and promotes the Chapter for collaboration with other like-minded organizations.
Director of Law School Outreach. The Director of Law School Outreach advises, encourages, and assists Chicago-area law school chapters by facilitating speaker ideas and planning and executing meetings of law school chapter leaders; assists the Director of Membership Recruitment and Retention with social activities to engage law school students; and creates and executes ideas that strengthen the Chapter’s relationships with local law schools.
Director of Media Outreach. The Director of Media Outreach, in partnership with the Director of Programming and the Director of the Annual Legal Legends Luncheon as necessary, publicizes programs, discussions, and the Luncheon to local media. The Director of Media Outreach also builds and maintains relationships with local media; monitors local media and submits articles and announcements about the Chapter to ACS National for inclusion on the Chapter’s website; responds to media requests; seeks publicity opportunities with “niche” media and social networking outlets, depending on event topic; raises the public profile of the Chapter; and assists with content for the Chapter’s website.
Assistant Director(s) of Programming. This person works with the Director of Programming and other Program Directors to fulfill the programming agenda for the Chapter, including the development and hosting of new programs throughout the year.
Program Director(s). In partnership with the Director of Programming and the Assistant Director(s) of Programming, this person plans and executes monthly programs; including recruiting speakers and co-sponsors; securing event locations; drafting and submitting program summaries and photos to national staff for placement on the Chapter website; drafting thank you notes to speakers and co-sponsors; and assisting with programs as needed.
Lawyer Outreach and Networking Director. This person recruits and retains captains from targeted law firms, government organizations, and public interest organizations to serve as ACS ambassadors within their workplace by promoting ACS event attendance and membership; organizes informal chapter happy hours; promotes ACS for collaborations with other like-minded organizations; and works closely with the membership team.
Law School Representatives (1 from each law school). The representatives promote Lawyer Chapter events to law students; assist with social activities to engage law school students; and recruit graduating members of ACS to join the Lawyer Chapter.
