Cheapest Self Storage In Chicago
Self-storage facilities generally accept everything and anything that can be stored safely whether in enclosed or open storage areas. However, since safety and security is a primary issue among self-storage facilities, there are certain restrictions of items that are considered acceptable for storage. After a customer has segregated the things he or she wants left in the house from that to be placed in storage facilities, it is important to determine if they are acceptable or are best placed in another kind of facility.
Self-Storage facilities have general guidelines in determining which are acceptable or not:
Anything that presents risk of danger to life or property is not acceptable
Risks mentioned here are those that are real in nature. Examples of these are materials that are combustible, flammable, hazardous, or toxic. These are materials that are considered risky to store because of their unstable nature. These would include gasoline, corrosives, fertilizers, acid, and biological waste, among others. Fireworks, weapons, and narcotics are also included in the non-acceptable category.
Anything that presents issues of legality is not acceptable
Possession of regulated drugs, narcotics, and high-powered weapons are considered illegal in most countries. Storing them in self-storage facilities does not make them any less illegal. This makes therefore unacceptable for storage. Medical supplies and equipment are generally acceptable except for radioactive materials and equipment.
Anything perishable or subject to spoiling is not acceptable
Food items that will spoil cannot be accepted for storage for obvious reasons. Spoiled food attracts pests and will result to foul smell which can affect the whole facility. Acceptable food items for storage are typically limited to canned food. However, owners are likewise advised to check every once in a while the expiration dates of these canned food to prevent spoiling while in storage.
Any animal or pet is not acceptable
The logic of this prohibition is quite obvious. Stored items are intended to be left by owners and any animal or pet cannot be without a caretaker. Besides, self-storage facilities are not the best place to leave animals as they are not made to accommodate any live occupancy whether human or animal. Animals will create noise, soil the facility, and will have a miserable life in enclosed places which can actually endanger their lives.
Anything stolen is not acceptable
This is something that can be very difficult to establish and prove. Never the less, the express prohibition stands. This is probably to emphasize the condition that nothing illegal is acceptable for storage. Anything that is criminally subject to the hands of law is by general policy not acceptable for storage.
Anything else that may be deemed unacceptable
Every self-storage facility has the right to form its own policies with regards to the acceptability and non-acceptability of certain items in their vicinity. If customers find that their goods are not acceptable to one due to physical limitation for example, they can always try another. This is of course granting that they do not fall in any of the above mentioned prohibitions.
