Girls Rock! Sydney Mentor Application Summer 2019
Girls Rock! Australia aims to build confidence and self-esteem in female, trans and gender-diverse youth and adults by amplifying their voices through music education and performance.

The Girls Rock! Sydney Camp for female, trans and gender-diverse youth aged 10-17 years Is returning on 14th – 19th January 2019 at The Factory Theatre in Marrickville. We are currently seeking mentors to fill various roles within the camp. The mentors we require are: instrument instructors to teach the campers skills in guitar, drums, bass guitar, vocals, and electronic music; and band coaches and band managers to help the campers form a band and write songs together.

Please note that mentors must be 18+ years old and all mentor positions will be paid an honorarium (approx. $250 for the week, per role taken). There will be mandatory online pre-camp training materials (approx. 3 hours) as well as a compulsory orientation on 13th January 2019.

Spots are limited, however, there will be many other exciting opportunities in the future.

Do you have a Working With Children Check? Or if you are not from NSW, do you have a WWCC equivalent? Please note that you MUST have a WWCC or the equivalent to be a mentor at the camp.
Tell us a little about yourself! Why are you interested in being involved with Girls Rock! Sydney, and what do you hope to bring to the program?
What musical experience do you have? Be sure to list instruments played and how long you've been playing them for. Please also state any music qualifications you have (e.g. AMEB grades, music degrees).
Please state if you have any relevant experience or qualifications in education or music education.
Do you have any experience with organising a band, gigs, events, tours, promotion, etc. in a DIY or commercial context?
What experience do you have working with young people, if any?
We value people who have experience in fields such as nursing, mental health, childcare, refugee support, etc. Do you have experience in any of these fields? Would you be willing to apply these at camp? We will provide an extra honorarium for these support roles as required.
How do you personally define a positive role model? What do you think a mentor should do?
GR!S camp is a positive and supportive environment. If a negative situation arises, mentors must remain flexible and can only give criticism to campers with suggestions for improvement. What are strategies you might use to deal with a negative situation?

What is your availability? We require mentors during the GR!S camp from 14–18 January 2019, 9am-4pm, and for three hours during the day for the showcase on 19 January. There will also be a mandatory staff orientation on the 13th January 2019. To get the most out of the camp experience and improve the campers' learning, we recommend that instrument instructors work full days where possible and take a second role as band coach or manager. Band coaches and band managers are also encouraged to come early where possible to help the campers and participate in morning activities. Every afternoon concludes with a staff debrief.
