Monika Roth, mr55@cornell.edu or call 607-216-2077** In early 2022 the Town of Caroline formed an Agriculture Committee, and in Fall 2022 we received a grant from NYS Dept. of Agriculture to develop an Agriculture and Farmland Protection Plan for Caroline. The
intent of the plan is to describe current agricultural activity in the town and
consider options for preserving farmland, supporting farmers, and expanding ag activities.
We are using the broadest definition of “agricultural activity”, so while we hope to hear from farmers, you DO NOT need to consider yourself a farmer to respond to this survey. We’re
also interested in hearing from backyard gardeners, homesteaders, concerned
consumers, horse owners, aspiring farmers, land and forest owners, and people
without land access. We all eat, which means we are all
part of the ag economy, so all residents of Caroline are welcome to provide
input.
This survey
will help us gain an understanding of current farming and land-related
activities in the town and provide a chance to gather ideas for projects,
collaborations, policies, or other activities that would help ensure that agriculture
continues to be a key part of the town’s future.
This survey
will be compiled by project consultant Monika Roth. Individual responses will remain confidential but input will be
compiled into a summary document that will be part of the Agriculture &
Farmland Protection plan.
Please take
part so we may hear from as many folks as possible about what you want
Caroline’s farm and land-based future to look like. THANK YOU from the Caroline Agriculture
Committee.
